Newcomer Needs Help (L4/L5 Herniation With Nerve Root Compression)

In the middle of July I hurt my back really bad. I had to wait 6 weeks for an MRI and the MRI showed L4/L5 herniation with nerve root compression. I still don't have full strength back in my left leg however most of the numbness is gone.

The past few days I have started having pain in the right side of my back (original was left side), going down my leg and shooting spasms across my back along my waistline when I reach for something at or above waist level. All this even while being careful because of my injury.

The pain this weekend has started to really frustrate me. I am afriad of surgery because I have heard that some people come out of it worse. But I don't know what my other options are. I feel I am OD'ing on Cyclobenzaprine and Arthrotec as well as T3's. They knock me out too. And I have an addictive personality.

I can't live like this anymore. I am only 29 and my desire to live has completely changed. I never thought I would get like this. If it weren't for my husband, family and pets I am afraid to say what I would do.

Do I have any hope? SHould I continue on the meds? Should I consider surgery? Would steroid injections help?

Thanks in advance for any help.
