Spinal stenosis; bulging lumbar disk; bone spurs

Has anyone undergone surgery for spinal stenosis, a bulging lumbar disk, or removal of bone spurs? Looks like I am going to need surgery for one or more, according to my recent MRI. How long is the recovery time? Any problems? Is it dangerous or is the surgery pretty routine? I am in a great deal of pain, especially at night in bed. Get some relief from sitting in an upright chair. Meds don't seem to help much.
