Although DD's list of intolerances are quite small compared to many of the LO's on here, she seems to react to nearly every single supplement we try. I have been so confused and frustrated by this because I really want to be doing digestive enzymes at a minimum. So a few days ago I had her in to the ND for a follow up and the ND wanted DD to take a zinc supplement but noted that the one she has in the office has magnesium stearate and many people can't tolerate it. I went ahead and bought the zinc and tried it out along with a new digestive enzyme that doesn't list mag stearate and DD reacted. So I've been looking in to it - Mag stearate apparently is derived from cottonseed or palm oil. Nothing I read talked about it being derived from soy, yet DD's reaction is very similar to a soy reaction and I did read some other people who said they have a soy allergy and can't tolerate mag stearate.
So what's the connection to soy? Anyone know? Or is it just coincidental? Or maybe I'm totally off base?
I stopped the zinc but kept going with the digestive enzymes, so it should become clear in the next few days if that's the problem.
